Be Good to You
I created Wellness. Balanced. with you in mind. It’s a ninety day on-line personal transformation program and right now it’s free. Daily emails, access to a secret Facebook group and private coaching (via email) with me are just a few of the perks.
One participant in the first group called it “Brilliant and transformative.” Another said “You are confirming so much of who I am every day. I am having a love affair with ME!!!”
This is the first in a series of four blogs to give you a taste of what we’re doing in Wellness. Balanced. Each week has a different theme and each day addresses ways to enhance various aspects of our daily lives within the context of that theme. Today’s blog is from BREATHE week and it’s all about you. The complete graphics and extras aren’t included here – you’ll have to join us to get the full effect. But you’ll get the idea. Each day is short, simple and powerful. Enjoy!
Breathe Week – Thursday
Breathing is such an integral part of life. We do it so automatically, most of us never give it a second thought. But when you take the time to tune in to your breath, you’ll realize it has a lot to say. Are you out of breath? Are you holding your breath?
High school was an especially stressful time in my life. My Mom, thinking outside the box, sent me to the local Himalayan Institute to learn how to breathe. I don’t remember much about the class, but I do remember the teacher. He was a smallish Asian man. He had been teaching us to breathe deeply through our diaphragms, instead of the more common shallow breaths through our lungs.
For demonstration purposes, at the very end, he got on the table in the front of the room and laid down on it. He asked us all to gather around him (there were not that many of us in the class). And we watched as he took really deep breaths through his diaphragm. He was able to puff up his belly until he looked nine months pregnant! It was the most amazing sight – and it clearly left an impression on me. I have (mostly) been breathing through my diaphragm ever since.
Try it yourself. Lay down on your bed. Put one hand over your belly button and put your other hand on your chest. Now slowly, and deliberately, breathe deeply through your nose and take turns making one hand rise and then the other. Notice the difference.
Then watch this TEDx talk. Dr. Belisa Vranich is amazing! She’ll introduce you to the concept of vertical breathing. And why you don’t want to do it.
The next Wellness. Balanced. launches on Monday, January 1, 2018. Join us! It’s free. It will be even better if you’re in it. Register here. Please share this on your social media platforms – let’s make it a global transformation!
