I created Wellness. Balanced. with you in mind. It’s a ninety day on-line personal transformation program and right now it’s free. Daily emails, access to a secret Facebook group and private coaching (via email) with me are just a few of the perks.
One participant in the first group called it “Brilliant and transformative.” Another said “You are confirming so much of who I am every day. I am having a love affair with ME!!!”
This is the third in a series of four blogs to give you a taste of what we’re doing in Wellness. Balanced. Each week has a different theme and each day addresses ways to enhance various aspects of our daily lives within the context of that theme.
Today’s blog is from DESIRE week and invites you to move your body. The complete graphics and extras aren’t included here – you’ll have to join us to get the full effect. But you’ll get the idea. Each day is short, simple and powerful. Enjoy!
DESIRE Week – Monday
What do you want? For so many, that is one of the hardest questions out there. So often when I ask someone, the knee-jerk reaction I get is a shoulder shrug and quick “I don’t know,” often accompanied with a nervous laugh.
Today is Movement Matters so I’ll reframe my question in this context – what do you want physically? Since almost fifty percent of Americans want to lose weight, let’s start there.
Ten pounds, twenty pounds, fifty pounds, or whatever. Does the idea of losing weight feel good or does your heart start pounding the minute you say it and you feel defeated before you even eat your first carrot stick? To me, the proposition of losing weight always sounds so daunting! Instead of focusing on losing weight, what if you said you want to be able to fit into any pair of jeans in your closet on any given day. (Those of you with a pair of fat jeans and skinny jeans know exactly what I’m talking about!)
I’m back at the beginning. What do you want? Listen to your body. Try to understand the language it’s speaking. When you sit quietly and listen, without judgement, you will begin to understand what your body wants. You’ll hear the answer to your question and that’s where it all begins. The “right” answer will be one that feels good – unlike saying you want to lose twenty pounds and feeling your heart pounding, the feel good answer will set you on the right path.
Do you want glowing skin? To sleep better? To fit into those jeans? Roll around on the floor with your kids? To laugh more? I guarantee once you find that desire that feels good, people, things and circumstances will start showing up in your life to lead you to a healthier path. And in the end, you may even drop enough pounds to fit into those skinny jeans: no carrot sticks required.
Today. The plank. All the movements we’ve been doing so far are full-body movements: walking, jumping, push ups, yoga, even breathing properly all engage your full body. The plank fits right in. Some believe the plank is the best exercise for your core. And core strength is foundational for balance and so much more.
I took this 30 day plank challenge last year and have since added the plank into my daily practice. I have definitely noticed the difference.
As a plank beginner, start on an incline, just the way you did with push ups or on your knees. This video shows proper alignment and common mistakes.
Start with thirty seconds on an incline or on your knees; which ever way you need to maintain proper form. Your breath will be steady. In and out through your nose.
Keep walking, jumping, breathing and doing push ups. Every day.
The next Wellness. Balanced. launches on Monday, January 1, 2018. Join us! It’s free. It will be even better if you’re in it. Register here. Please share this on your social media platforms – let’s make it a global transformation!
